MARGAO
In an interesting development on the controversial recruitment for the posts of LDCs, site supervisor by the Margao Municipal Council, the Civic body is believed to have issued the appointment letters to the successful candidates on Thursday.
The Margao Municipal Council’s decision to offer appointment letters to the successful candidates comes a day after a notice was served on the civic body that the recruitment process is challenged before the High Court and to attend the hearing scheduled on Monday.
Margao civic chief Damu Shirodkar confirmed to The Goan that the Municipality has issued the offer of appointments to the successful candidates on Thursday.
The decision to issue the offer of appointments assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that a candidate has challenged the recruitment process before the High Court. It further assumes significance and comes a day after the High Court lawyer representing the petitioners served the notice for hearing of the matter, expected to come before the court on Monday.
Of the two petitioners, who had applied for the post, has contended that he did not receive the admit card from the Municipality, while the second petition, a MMC staffer has challenged the recruitment for the post of site supervisor on grounds that the post is required to be filled up via departmental promotion.
With the MMC now going ahead and offering the appointment letters to the successful candidates, the focus has now shifted to the High Court on Monday.
The LDCs recruitment exercise had hit the headlines from day one after reports did the round that the process is aimed at providing jobs to the kith and kin of elected members. That’s not all. The MMC was accused of going ahead with the recruitment despite demands made in many quarters to rope in the Staff Selection Commission to fill up the posts through a transparent process.
