Redkar removed as member secy of GCZMA

PANAJI

The State government has removed Dashrath Redkar as Director of Environment and simultaneously from his statutory charge of member secretary of the crucial Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority.

In his place, Dr Geeta Nagvekar will be the new Director of Environment and GCZMA member secretary.

Nagvenkar earlier was Director (Administration) in the Public Works Department and also held the additional charge of executive director of Sports Authority of Goa.

She will continue to hold additional charge of Director (Administration) in PWD.

Redkar, meanwhile, has been asked to report to the Personnel Department for further posting.

Interestingly, the GCZMA, a crucial body responsible for licensing and policing all development and construction in coastal areas, is in limbo. Its tenure has ended and has to be reconstituted by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) in consultation with the State government.

Its routine functions, however, are currently being looked after in a working arrangement by the Environment Secretary, who is its chairman and the member secretary.

According to sources in the State Environment Ministry, the Goa government has already dispatched the communique with recommendations of members and the MoEF&CC notification constituting the new GCZMA is awaited.
