Reginaldo for probe into revenue earned from casinos

Demands White Paper on financial status of Goa State Cooperative Bank

Reginaldo for probe into revenue earned from casinos
MARGAO
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Wednesday said the state government ought to have earned a revenue of Rs 400 plus crore by way of entry fee to the 14 casinos in the state from July 2016 till date, claiming that around 5000 people on an average visit the casinos every day,.
He also called upon the state government to come out with a white paper on the exact financial status of the Goa State Cooperative Bank.
Addressing the media, Reginaldo pooh poohed the claims made by the government that th
e treasury must have earned a substantial amount of revenue from casinos. Giving a break-up of the fees levied by casinos, the Congress MLA pointed out that assuming around 5000 people visit the 14 casinos every day, the government ought to have collected a revenue of Rs one crore per day with an entrance fee of Rs 2000 per head. "Let there be a probe into the loss of revenue from the casino entry fee. During the peak festive seasons, people have to pay even Rs 5000 to Rs 10,000 to get entry inside the casinos," he said.
On the affairs of the Goa State Co-operative Bank, Reginaldo demanded a white paper on the affairs of the apex bank. He also demanded that the bank initiate stringent criminal proceedings against the alleged unlawful activities of a former retired official, saying the official has been allowed to go scot-free despite demand for criminal action against him in the Assembly.

Chides Parrikar on Mhadei issue
MARGAO: Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has demanded to know how Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar would have reacted if Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had to deal directly with Goa state Congress President Shantaram Naik on the contentious Mhadei water issue.
"People may say that there may be nothing wrong if the Karnataka Chief Minister writes to Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President, Shantaram Naik in view of the fact that the Congress had received the mandate in the 2017 Assembly and the people rejecting the BJP in the election. That does not mean that the Karnataka Chief Minister can write directly to the Goa Congress president," Reginaldo said.
While demanding that the Chief Minister should make his stand clear whether the Karnataka Chief Minister would have been right in corresponding directly to the Goa State Congress President, Reginaldo said that Parrikar has no power to write a letter to the Karnataka BJP president on Mhadei when the contentious issue is pending before the tribunal. "It is indeed shocking and surprising that the Goa Chief Minister preferred to write to a state president of a political party when the issue in question is dear to the hearts of all Goans," he added.
