Expressing concern over the increasing cases of non Goans changing their original names to Goan names, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Thursday said if Vijai Sardesai government, whose slogan is Goem, Goemkar and Goemkarponn, is serious, it should immediately counsel government on this issue.

Addressing the media, Reginaldo said it is a very alarming situation in Goa that most of the non Goans, whether as workers, businessman or tourists get hooked by its majestic beauty and the hospitality of Goemkars and as a result many of them try

to settle in the State by changing their original names to Goan names.

‘The modus operandi is very clear that changing their name is solely done to grab the land belonging to the locals as well as to obtain social schemes and other benefits which are designated for the daughters and sons of Goa,” he added.

He further said these non Goans have a hidden agenda to usurp whatever that belongs to Goemkars including land and to accomplish the said motive they even fall in love with Goan girls and Goan boys.

On non Goans changing their names, he made a fervent plea to the government to order a thorough probe in the offices of the Sub Registrars, municipalities and village panchayats.

“Manohar Parrikar’s government has a habit to tom tom on its so called slogan to zero tolerance to corruption, but let me remind this government that all Goans are doing things possible even bribing our officials in the concerned department offices which are designated for change of names,” he added.
