Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Thursday asserted that the Margao  Municipal Council acquired land opposite Sonsodo, but which lies in  neighbouring Raia village is a no development zone with a green cover.

While  saying that he would lend all out support to the Margao Municipality  and the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) to start the remediation  process at Sonsodo at the earliest,  Reginaldo, however, asserted that  the acquired land at Sonsodo is not the viable space for storage of the  waste rejects and inert material generated via the remediation process.

Making  a fervent plea to everyone not to make politics over the Sonsodo  imbroglio, the Curtorim MLA said he has already told the government  about his opposition to the Raia land for storage of the waste rejects,  fearing that the land will be made another Sonsodo.

“I have also told Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that I will not fail in my duty to  protect the interests of my constituents. In the instant case, residents  of Raia have opposed any plans to utilise the acquired land for the  storage of waste rejects,” he said, while making clear that he would  stand by the people of Raia in particular and Curtorim constituents in  general.
