The Congress party on Monday took up cudgels for the beleaguered family from Verna whose house was razed down by the Communidade body last week.
A party delegation composed of party General Secretary Everson Vales, Capt Viriato Fernandes, South Goa District President Savio D’Silva and others called on Srinet Kothwale, Additional Collector, South and demanded immediate relief for the affected family.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Additional Collector, strongly condemning what it termed as the inhuman and dastardly act of demolishing the house of a family in Verna during the monsoon in the State.
“The sad plight of the family belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community whose house was demolished on 7th September, leaving the family roofless and homeless under heavy rains, reflects the heartless and inhuman act on the part of the administration under the present government of the BJP”, the memorandum added.
The delegation questioned why the affected family was not informed and given sufficient time to make alternate arrangements, further demanding to know why the Panchayat was not informed about the demolition.
Despite knowing fully well that the family is financially backward, and belongs to the Scheduled Tribe community, the delegation wondered why the administration did not inform the State Commission for STs to make some alternate arrangement for the family in view of the heavy rains lashing the State.
