Sources from the party disclosed that Faleiro is expecting a positive response from the high command within a day or two.
The letter states that under Faleiro, the Congress organization was built from scratch resulting in the gain the Goan voter’s confidence at the recent Assembly polls. As opposed to the six seats held by the Congress in the last Assembly, the party’s strength rose to 17.
“We would have actually got 21 seats had it not been for the misjudgment and misguidance of some seior Congressmen,” Faleiro wrote, hinting at former Goa desk in-charge All India Congress Committee general-secretary Digvijaya Singh.
He also stated that the senior leaders, who had previously declared that the party would not win more than two seats, are now claiming that they can form the government.
Meanwhile, Faleiro also informed the high command that, in fulfillment of his dream to have the party’s ow premises, he has executed the sale deed for the party’s North and South district offices while also signing the agreement for purchase of space for the state unit’s headquarters at the luxurious Patto Plaza in Panaji. The state headquarter will be operational in December 2017.
Faleiro took charge of Goa Congress in min-October, 2014 and had tendered his resignation to the party high command last year. The resignation, however, was not accepted by the All India Congress Committee.
On June 5, following the Goa polls, Faleiro repeated his request to Rahul Gandhi while at a meeting of party minority leaders in New Delhi. Prior to that, while announcing the schedule of the party organisational polls, Faleiro had hinted that Goa Congress could have a new president by October end as the elections to the executive committee of the state unit are scheduled to be held between September 16 and October 15 later this year.
Responding to a call for his ouster from certain MLAs at a meeting held at former Congress MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate’s residence, Faleiro had stated, “If tomorrow even one MLA feels that we can form a government and that it will help and facilitate then I am ready to quit.”
