Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar launched a KTC bus service to the remote Mangal village in Sanguem, which is atop a hill in the Netravali Wildlife sanctuary and about 70 kms from Margao.
Others present on the occasion included Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, South Goa ZP Upadhyaksh Khushali Velip, ZP Rivona member Suresh Kepekar, Sarpanch Samiksha Desai, ESG Chairman Subhash Faldesai, KTC GM Sanjay Ghate, Vision Sanguem Convenor and social worker Savitri Kavlekar.
Kavlekar hailed the KTC’s decision to connect villages as remote as Mangal with a bus service.
“The State government under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is committed towards all round development of the State and while making the State self reliant, the last mile connectivity will play an important role,” said Kavlekar.
As agriculture minister, Kavlelar said various schemes have been planned by his department to benefit farmers in the State.
“Ways are being chalked out to popularise and simplify community farming, under which 90% subsidy is rolled out to farmers,” he said.
Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, ESG Chairman Subhash Faldesai, ZP Khushali Velip, Savitri Kavlekar and Sanjay Ghate also spoke on the occasion.
Sanjay Ghate said the KTC has been launching routes to remote areas for the benefit of people in far-flung parts of the State.
“Some of these routes will never make a profit, but the KTC will still go ahead on these routes, as they are to benefit people of Goa,” he said.
A villager, Pratibha Sudhakar Velip, who also spoke on the occasion, thanked Dy CM Kavlekar for honouring his promise to provide a bus service while campaigning for ZP member Khushali Velip.
“Without this bus facility, we had to walk for 8 kms to Netravali to avail of transport services. A private operator used to operate a bus, however he stopped during the Covid pandemic,” she said.
