Where’s the PWD, National Highways? Are the officials aware of the unmotorable condition of the road passing through the commercial capital? And, why are the officials dragging their
feet in getting the contractor to repair the roads despite the pathetic stretch of the road?
These and other questions are being posed by beleaguered motorists as the highway road passing through the commercial capital is awaiting urgent repairs for the last fortnight. Motorists and citizens must have certainly expected the NH officials and the contractor to step in and undo the damage by taking advantage of the two days of bright sunshine, but in vain. And, one has not witnessed any discernible activity by the NH to mobilise men and machinery to get the road repaired in the foreseeable future.
That’s not all. Leave alone the repair of the roads, the gravel accumulated along the road sides is posing danger to the two-wheelers, but labourers are not seen around to lift away the loose black metal from the roads.
When The Goan contacted a senior NH official to shed light on the delay by the department to get the contractor at least do the soling on the damaged road, more so along the stretch near the Eagle showroom, he only said the contractor will be told to lay a carpet of tar to overcome the problem.
Motorists, however, pointed out that the PWD should at least fill up the potholes doting the roads on top priority to prevent accidents. “The PWD may take time to lay a carpet of tar along the damaged road, but at least the authorities should get the potholes filled with stone rubles as a temporary measure,” remarked a motorist.
While the contractor
had repaired the damaged portion of the road passing in front of Marliz restaurant and in front of the Penguin restaurant, the remaining stretch of the highway
passing through the town remains unattended

MARGAO: The Margao railway station-District library road registered another accident on Monday as the potholed road continues to give nightmares for the motorists, especially two-wheelers and the neighbouring residents.
A two-wheeler rider, Gapanati Kadekar sustained leg injuries after his vehicle was involved in an accident with a four-wheeler on the potholed road. The badly damaged road had witnessed another accident on Saturday when a rickshaw wheel got stuck in a crater, damaging the three-wheeler and causing injuries to the driver Uday Naik and the customer. Residents of Colmorod have been demanding urgent repairs on the road for a long time now, but in vain.
