Goacan has brought to the notice of DySP Traffic (South) P B Shirvoikar that there are a number of road signs in different parts of South Goa District which do not conform to the colour code and images as required by law.
In the letter Goacan has sought the intervention of DySP Shirvoikar to ensure that no wrong road signages are installed and all wrong ones presently installed on national highways, state highways, MDRs and village roads in South Goa District are replaced at the earliest.
It may be noted that the road signs with wrong colour code or images have on many occasions resulted in confusing the rider/driver, sparking disputes between the traffic police personnel and
rider/drivers.
On many occasions, the public have mocked government officials for not having proper knowledge of the law.
“There is much enthusiasm by many corporates to donate road signages under CSR initiatives. However, before a proposal to donate road signs is accepted, it must be the practice that the design of the road signage must be approved by the traffic police cell of the area and cleared by the concerned Road Safety & Traffic Management Committee of the municipal council or village panchayat,” informed Goacan Convenor Roland Martins. It may be noted the matter was raised in the meetings of the South Goa District Road Safety Council and South Goa District Consumer Protection Council.
