A resort in Anjuna, where a video of a pre-wedding party went viral on Thursday, is being probed by the State administration.
The North Goa Collector's office has sought a detailed report on the episode where some 300 guests were allegedly hosted at a time when the State government is cautiously treading a cautious path on the decision to ease the Statewide curfew restrictions, especially so because of the new mutant of the dreaded Coronavirus found in neighbouring parts of Maharashtra feared to be a potent trigger of a looming third wave of the pandemic.
The resort had been granted permission to host the wedding this weekend with a cap of 50 persons. The two families from Odisha and Assam have already arrived at the resort and reportedly had a pre-wedding event on Thursday, a video of which went viral on social media platforms.
Deputy Collector (North Goa) Kapil Phadte said: "I have asked for a detailed report on the incident from the mamlatdar (revenue official). An enquiry will be conducted, law will take its course."
Phadte admitted that there was no permission granted by the State administration to hold the pre-wedding event at the resort on Thursday, although permission has been granted for “50 people” on June 26.
“They had been given permission for June 26 for 50 people. You cannot violate Covid norms on a whim. You cannot take permission for the 26th and host a party on the 24th,” Phadte said.
