Representatives of four of the largest private hospitals in the state, Manipal Hospital, Apollo Victor Hospital, Healthway and SMRC, were invited by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at his official residence on Saturday evening to discuss the modalities involved in the government decision to take over Covid admissions in the private medical sector from Monday.
Speaking to the media, Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital said, “We have been asked to follow the DDSSY pattern and cappings while pricing Covid treatment. We have been informed that government officers will sit at the admission desk for Covid patients and that the government will take over Covid admission on the basis of ‘first come, first serve’ and as per requirements of the patient.”
He further disclosed that Covid treatment will be 100 percent free under DDSSY for general ward admissions and that private hospitals have been permitted to charge the difference in charges for admissions to upgraded facilities.
A second meeting is expected to be convened on Sunday to carry forward this discussion between the private medical sector and government in the hope of ironing out various other concerns.
