All India Congress Committee secretary Girish Chodankar has called upon Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to provide regular drinking water to his own voters in Panaji before providing drinking water to the people of Karnataka through diversion of Mhadei waters.
Chodankar said, "Let the Chief Minister first quench the thirst of his own people and then take a political stand on other similar interstate issues. Parrikar, who has been elected since the last 22 years by the people of Panaji h
as failed to quench the thirst of his own voters. Panaji gets water for less than two hours daily despite promising 24 hours water every election."
He further sought to draw the government's attention to the satyagraha by residents of Kadamba plateau on Goa Liberation Day demanding potable water.
"While Parrikar is busy quenching the thirst of people outside Goa, Ponjekars who have been staring at dry taps regularly expect him to take up the cause of his own constituency on priority," the AICC secretary stated.
Chodankar admitted that it would be foolish to expect the present coalition government to provide 24x7 water supply to entire Goa.
However, he urged Parrikar to ensure a decent amount of water to his own constituents before deciding to share the waters of Mhadei.
"Parrikar's assurance of a 365-day action plan for Panaji constituency has fallen flat. People are still waiting for the government to fulfill their basic needs. The people of Panaji expect Parrikar to accept the ground reality and work for those who elected him," Chodankar said.
