A retaining wall of a housing society at Gogol collapsed on Tuesday, causing panic among residents. There are fears that further landslides could endanger the apartment building nearby.
Fire services led by Officer Gill D’Souza rushed to the spot after receiving a call that the collapse could pose a risk to the buildings. Officials from the District Disaster Management Authority also visited the site to assess the damage and plan safety measures.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, who inspected the area, urged the Water Resources Department to immediately prepare estimates for rebuilding the wall on priority. He warned that the apartment complex could be at risk if the wall is not reconstructed soon.
Fire Officer Gill advised the local talathi to secure the site by covering the exposed portion with tarpaulin sheets. He added that debris from the collapse had fallen into the nearby swimming pool.
