A good portion of the jogging track at the SAG ground, Fatorda was buried with laterite stones after the retaining wall came crashing down
on the track on Saturday morning.
Fortunately, a group of women and a young jogger had just walked past the portion of the track, behind the cluster of houses outside the Nehru Stadium, when a portion of the wall, around
30-odd metres, came crashing down.
The residents and the joggers heaved a sigh of relief as no one was injured in the incident as the wall collapsed right on the track. Sources said that a portion of the wall had given way some years ago and the portion that collapsed was found weak, but was not repaired by the SAG.
“The stones just came all over and buried the track. I was just 25-30 metres away when the incident occurred. The wall collapsed all of a sudden, but with a loud sound,” a jogger from Borda Mario Britto Fernandes told The Goan.
He pointed out that he and his jogging mate, Querobina were about to cross the portion before the incident occurred at around 8.55 am. “We immediately called the fire brigade as the track was all buried under the laterite stones,” he added.
