In a bid to end the stalemate at the Cutbona fishing jetty after the take over by the Fisheries department, District Collector, South Dr Tariq Thomas had a high level meeting with officials and all the stakeholders connecting with the fishing industry and the police.
District SP Arvind Gawas and other police officials, Fisheries Director N Arlekar and the stakeholders at the Cutbona fishing jetty attended the meeting to work out a solution to the imbroglio.
While the issue over the fish agents dominated the discussion at the meeting, issues of sanitation also came to the fore at the meeting with the Fisheries department questioned over the absence of measures to tone up the sanitation amenities in and around the jetty.
With the expanded jetty having a provision for 19 slots for the fish agents, the delegation led by the Cutbona Boat Owners Union Savio D’Silva said the boat owners aligned to the Union will not have any issue if the slots are allotted to new fish agents, other than the 12 old agents doing business at the jetty over the years, after leaving slots for the traditional fishermen.
Senior police officials informed that the meeting has almost resolved all the contentious issues plaguing the Cutbona fishing jetty, adding that minor issues will be addressed by early next week.
In this connection, Fisheries officials and other officers will visit the Cutbona fishing jetty next week and address the contentious issues once and for all.
The district authorities informed that the Fisheries department will be impressed upon to tone up sanitation amenities at the Cutbona fishing jetty, with a suggestion being made that the department should install mobile eco-toilets as a stop gap arrangement pending the construction of the 50-seater toilet block at the jetty.
