Some youth from Rajbhag-Tarir had complained to the dy collector about the incident.
“The retaining wall which is more than 3 metres in height is alongside a road and residential houses. If no action is taken on this, then houses and even motorists using the road could be at great risk,” said a youth.
The youths had also asked the dy collector to verify if necessary permission under Section 17 of Town and Country Planning Act had been obtained for mud filling and whether the structural stability certificate has been obtained from a registered structural engineer.
In response to the complaint, Gaonkar immediately visited the site and carried out the inspection.
Youth present at the site showed the dy collector how the collapse of a portion of the retaining wall had damaged some portion of a nearby general store.
The dy collector later instructed the resort officials to take necessary precautions to protect against any future accident/damage.
CMC Councillor Gandesh Madgaonkar, Congress Youth (South District) Secretary Vaishnav Pednekar, Rajan Komarpant, Supesh Metri, Rahul Komarpant, Ritisha Naik, Sangeeta and Suresh B Komarpant were some of the youth who had signed on the complaint.
