Retirement age of PWD chief engineers increased to 62

The State government on Tuesday notified amendment to the Goa Civil Services Rules increasing the retirement age of chief engineers of the PWD, department of drinking water, water resource department, and Goa electricity department to 62 years.

However, chief engineers will benefit from the relaxation only if there are no suitable candidates to be Chief Engineer.

Through a notification issued under the Goa State Civil Services (Retirement) Sixth Amendment Rules, 2025, the government has increased the superannuation age to 62 years for officers serving as Chief Engineers and those in higher positions in the Public Works Department, Drinking Water Department, Water Resources Department and the Electricity Department.

As per the notification, if a candidate qualifies and is promoted to the post, any official continuing beyond 60 years will be required to retire immediately upon the new appointment.

The decision was taken by the State cabinet last week.
