Once the entire report comes, if action needs to be initiated against any errant officers, it will be done,” Khaunte said. rThe revenue minister was speaking to the media when he visited the accident site in Revora and handed a cheque of Rs 4 lakh under the national calamity scheme to Sunil Revodkar, father of the deceased boy who died in the unfortunate tree fall mishap. rNorth Goa Collector Neela Mohanan, Deputy Collector Gaurish Sankhwalkar and Mamlatdar Dashrath Gawas were present. Former Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar was also present. rKhaunte said in future government will take steps to ensure that tree cutting issues will be tackled quickly and smoothly. r“As per the Tree Act, certain powers are vested with the deputy collector to take appropriate decisions. We have now asked the North and South Goa Collectors to immediately review tree cutting decisions on case-to-case basis,” he said. rHe further said there was a need to take some decisive steps in order to avoid such tree falling accidents in the State. r“Sometimes natural calamities are not within our hands. But government should take immediate action when such calamities take place,” he said. rHe said the Rs 4 lakh was the first installment released by the government to the aggrieved family under the natural calamity fund. rAny additional support will be given through the disaster management and chief minister’s relief fund, he added.
