The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has extended support to the Bhoma and Corlim locals in opposing the highway expansion project through the village, affecting the houses of the locals.

At a meeting held at Bhoma on Saturday, RGP President Manoj Parab accompanied by other leaders visited the village and informed that the RGP will stand by the villagers in opposing the highway expansion till there is clear picture on the number of houses to be affected.

“However, there has to be unity of the villagers on the issue as only a united village will be able to fight against the project,” Parab informed, while stating that MLA Viresh Borkar will try to raise the issue in the Assembly.

Further, Parab demanded that the government has to show the alignment of the project passing through all villages like Corlim, Bhoma and others.

“They just cannot show the project in parts as they know that the villagers will rise up in numbers against the project,” Parab stated while pointing out that there is a larger plan to bring in truck hub and coal jetties in the village.

The locals also demanded that the government should show them the plan of the highway in totality and warned that if the officials do not clear the doubts of the people, then they will not allow the project to go ahead at any cost.

The villagers also said that they are willing to sacrifice their lives for saving the houses which have been existing since Portuguese rule.

The locals also slammed MLA Govind Gaude and sarpanch Damodar Naik for misleading the media with their statements that only four houses are going to be affected.

Bhoma-Adcolna Dy Sarpanch Shaila Naik demanded that the highway project should be built by minimal damage to houses as promised to them.
