Voicing concern over communal tensions in Goa over a controversial statement made on Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Saturday appealed for peace and communal harmony.
“It is very sad that such an issue has taken place because Goa is a peaceful state and Goans have earned respect across the world. Goa is proud of its image of peace-loving people where people have been living in communal harmony for ages,” said Amonkar.
“People making controversial statements, either by mistake or deliberately, is not correct. I have confidence in the government that the situation will be taken care of and all necessary legal action will be taken.”
“I feel that people should think carefully before making such statements which can hurt sentiments of the people and flare communal tensions. The priest has already apologised and a FIR has also been lodged where law will take its own course.”
“But such communal tensions are unwanted and we must all live together in peace and communal harmony. I have full faith that the government will not allow the communal tensions to escalate and the issue will be resolved,” Amonkar added.
