The Pedda-Varca footbridge that has collapsed for want of repairs and maintenance.
MARGAO
What was feared by the local people of Pedda-Varca has come true. The footbridge at the Pedda-Varca creek, which was on the verge of collapse during the heavy rains, has finally collapsed.
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas informed that the footbridge which was in need of urgent repairs, has finally crumbled.
He said he has taken up the matter with the WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar to build a new footbridge at the place.
During heavy rains, the footbridge had come under strain with a portion of the structure, giving way. Varca Deputy Sarpanch Roland Fernandes, who had inspected the footbridge along with panchayat members during the rains, had said the bridge is an important link for the local fishermen and the visitors to make it to the beach.
