Voicing its strong opposition to the State government’s move to bring in a law to regularize illegal structures on communidade land, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has warned that it would launch a statewide movement against the same.
Addressing reporters in Panaji on Tuesday, RGP Chief Manoj Parab informed that the move aims at protecting the vote bank of the BJP, be it at Indira Nagar-Chimbel, Zuarinagar, Lala ki Basti-Tivim, Shapur Basti, Kargil-Curtorim, and other areas. Parab termed the decision by the government as an attempt to bring in the Bhumipatra-2 bill.
“The RGP is not going to keep quiet on the issue, and we are going to launch agitation by organizing a door-to-door campaign and rallies all over Goa, highlighting how the government is protecting the interests of the migrants to garner their votes,” Parab added.
“From the decision, it has become clear that the BJP is only interested in the vote bank of the migrants,” he stated. MLA Viresh Borkar also warned that such a move would not be tolerated at any cost.
“Our party has already got demolition orders in Lala ki Basti-Tivim and also in Davorlim, and this decision appears to be taken to safeguard the interest of the migrants who have built illegal houses on communidade land,” Borkar stated.
“When I had moved a resolution on the issue in the Assembly, several affected MLAs had voiced their opposition, and this move appears to have been taken to safeguard the migrant votes of these MLAs,” Borkar said and added that RGP will oppose the move tooth and nail.
