Rider dies after collision with stray cattle in Canacona

CANACONA

In yet another tragic incident involving stray cattle, a 27-year-old scooter rider succumbed to serious injuries after his two-wheeler collided with cattle on old NH-17 at Khalwadem in Shristhal panchayat area.

According to sources, Eulegio Fernandes, a resident of Bhatpal, was riding his scooter towards Canacona late Monday evening when cattle suddenly ran onto the road. His scooter collided with them, causing him to fall and sustain critical injuries.

Locals rushed to his aid and shifted him to the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC), where he later succumbed to his injuries.

While residents acknowledged that animals like cattle cannot be directly blamed, they criticised local authorities for failing to address the growing menace of stray cattle and dog. They also blamed cattle owners for letting their animals roam freely, especially during nighttime, and questioned the role of gaushalas, demanding accountability for their failure to shelter stray cattle.
