Rider injured as strong winds, unseasonal rains hit Bicholim

BICHOLIM

A scooter rider was injured while at least two cars were damaged when trees came crashing down in different parts of Bicholim on account of strong winds and unseasonal rains on Wednesday.

In one incident, Rahman Pasha was injured when a tree fell in Mulgao. Vehicles were travelling on the road at the time, but no other injuries were reported.

Traffic was disrupted for some time while a Bicholim fire brigade went to the spot and cleared the road.

In another incident, a large tree fell on two cars at Kumbharwada-Mayem and Bordem-Bicholim, causing extensive damage to the cars.

Uprooting of trees was reported at many places including Pali, Bordem, Mulgaon, and Navelim.

The Bicholim Fire Services, led by Fire Station Officer Santosh Gawas, attended to a number of calls around the taluka to clear fallen trees and to restore traffic and services and claimed that property losses were estimated at over Rs 5 lakh.
