PERNEM
Incessant rains in Pernem have led to a sharp rise in river levels across Pernem taluka, with several fields and low-lying areas flooded.
Many roads have been inundated at Chandel-Hasapur and a house in the area is on the verge of collapse.
A similar situation had occurred last year after excessive water from the Tillari dam had been released and the rivers began to overflow. This time though, there has been flood-like situation even though water from the Tillari Dam has not been released yet.
When contacted, Pernem Mamlatdar Anant Malik said the government machinery is ready to face the situation.
“Families who have been cut-off at Kadashi-Mopa will be provided help. Trees have fallen on houses and there have been landslides on the NH66 highway at Malpe. The old bandhara at Bailpar-Kasarvarne is full of wooden logs which has changed the direction of the flow of water,” he said.
