The State witnessed heavy rainfall on Monday with several parts witnessing waterlogging and the authorities gearing up to face any rain-related exigency.
Rivers were in spate in Bicholim as heavy rains lashed the taluka since Sunday, prompting authorities to operate pumps to prevent water from entering the flood-prone market area in Sankhali.
According to sources, water levels in the Bicholim, Par and Valwanti rivers rose sharply due to heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday, disrupting normal life in the taluka.
The water level at Valwanti river crossed 3.8 metres, while the level at the Bicholim river was 3 metres.
A number of fields and low-lying areas were flooded and the Disaster Management Team headed by Bicholim Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit was closely monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, water pumps were deployed to prevent water from entering the Sankhali market, which has been prone to floods in the past.
When contacted, WRD Executive Engineer K P Naik said water level at the Amthane dam had crossed the 50-metre mark, but said there was no danger at present.
Water level at the Anjunem dam reached 80 metres and Tillari Dam authorities have warned they may be forced to release excess water if it reaches danger levels.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and the situation is under control,” said Pandit.
