RND tender to lease ferry ramp at Cavelossim kicks up row

MARGAO
A tender floated by the River Navigation Department to hire out/ lease out the ferry ramp at Cavelossim has kicked up a row of sorts. The Congress party was quick to demand the purpose behind the move to lease out the ferry ramp, demanding to know whether the government is out to destroy River Sal after destroying the fields and mountains.

The Benaulim block Congress party further demanded to know whether the government had taken the local bodies into confidence before taking the decision to hire out/ lease out the ferry ramp.

The Congress reminded that people inhabiting the banks of River Sal had launched a massive agitation around a decade ago after a starred hotel had brought a casino and anchored the vessel in River Sal.

They pointed out that the five-starred resort had to bow down to the sentiments of the local population and tow away the casino from the river. “We want to know who are the intended beneficiaries of the move to lease out the ferry ramp? Let the government come clear,” the Congress demanded.

Sources in the know pointed out that the Cavelossim ferry ramp was leased out reportedly to a bidder around five years ago for the purpose of tourism, adding that the lease might have come for renewal.

Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz said the panchayat has no knowledge of the decision to hire out/ lease out ferry ramp.
