Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza recently kick-started various development works worth Rs 30 lakh in Mapusa but cautioned that hot-mixing of roads including the dilapidated stretch from Mapusa urban bank to the church will be delayed by at least another two months due to ongoing development works taken up in town.
D’Souza also said the much-delayed work on the renovation and restoration of the old municipal building which will house a public library will be launched within the next few days.
The Deputy Speaker launched the works of construction of a crucial culvert at Khorlim-xim and improvement of drainage facility near Suraj book stall in presence of Mapusa Chairperson, Shubanghi Vaigankar and several other councillors and PWD officials.
The PWD will be taking up the construction of the culvert of around 2 metre length at a cost of around Rs 17 lakh while the work to improve the drainage facility will be taken up at a cost of around Rs 13 lakh.
“The work on the culvert is expected to be completed within 45 days. It’s crucial work as during the monsoon the major drain bringing rainwater from the hillside of Khorlim was getting choked in this area. With the widening of the culvert the major bottleneck will be cleared allowing easy flow of water,” D’Souza said.
He said the drainage facility near the Suraj book stall will also be complete within 40 to 45 days.
The Mapusa MLA further said that several other development works like the footpath from court junction to the district hospital and connections to the underground sewerage network will be taken up on war footing.
He also said that hotmixing of some roads in town will be taken up after January due to the ongoing works of underground electricity powerline cabling and sewerage connection in Mapusa.
“The High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) power lines near the market will be shifted underground and therefore the stretch of market road from taxi-stand to the church will be dug up. Sewerage connection work will also be taken up simultaneously and therefore hotmixing of the road will be taken up only after completion of all the works,” he said.
