The South Goa Road Safety Committee has again reiterated that the PWD, National Highways should build the road bypass at Dandeavaddo-Chinchinim instead of a flyover.

The meeting chaired by South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes and attended by South Goa Collector, Egnal Cletus, IAS and officials of different agencies saw the panel demanding that the PWD, National Highways take the advice and suggestions of the Traffic Department and consult the village panchayat bodies before designing the highway road alignments.

Saying that the district road safety traffic panel had taken the decision in favour of a road bypass at Dandeavaddo-Chinchinim after the local populace approached the panel, the MP said the panel has again taken a decision that the National highway should go by the wishes of the people of Chinchinim.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Viriato said the panel has also demanded that the government take up the work of illumination of the Nuvem-Arlem Eastern bypass on a war footing.

He pointed out that the panel had demanded that the authorities reduce the height of the Dabolim flyover, but the government had cold shouldered the decision, before the High Court intervened and issued directions to the government to reduce the height of the flyover.

The MP has made a fervent plea to the people of Goa to avail benefits of the Good Samaritan scheme by helping road accident victims. “The scheme envisages a reward of Rs 5,000 to any person who helps to take an injured person in road accidents to the hospital. The people should avail benefits of the scheme and help save the lives of the road accident victims,” he added.

GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins said the panel should make a recommendation to the concerned authorities to pay compensation to road accident victims suffering permanent disability in hit and run cases.
