Road tax paid before waiver to be adjusted in future: Minister

VASCO
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Thursday evening said that people who have paid the transport-related taxes before the waiver was announced in the Cabinet need not worry as their money would be adjusted in the future transactions.

Godinho was speaking to reporters after inaugurating two toilet block facilities for the residents of Housing Board colony at New Vaddem.

Godinho further said that people who had already paid the taxes before the waiver was announced need not worry as their money would be adjusted automatically in the future transactions with the department.

"There are some people, who despite not having money have taken loans, pledged gold and paid their taxes as they are law-abiding citizens, no matter how poor they may be. These people don't want to be defaulters for tax payment. While I respect such people, I also want to assure them that even if they have paid the tax, their money will be adjusted in all the future monetary transactions. Their money will not go waste and will be automatically adjusted in the future whenever they pay fees or make any other transaction with the department," said Godinho.

Godinho said that the waiver was the greatest relaxation to Goans since the pandemic, especially to a majority of Goans indulged in the taxi, bus, rickshaw and motorcycle pilot business.

Godinho said that the five toilet blocks consisting of 50 toilets at Housing Board colony at New Vaddem were taken up under CSR by Goa Shipyard Limited at the cost of Rs 1.25 crore and that another 10 existing toilets were renovated.

"We are already working on improvisation of water supply as works on new pipelines under JICA project will be completed in 45 days. We have also enhanced power on the transformer, and we are taking up the hot mixing of roads. We are also working to have the sewerage network in the entire constituency and an amount of Rs 150 crore from the Centre for Dabolim which had been sanctioned earlier will be used. We have also identified land for the sewage pumping station and this will solve the sewage problem," the minister said.
