Roads are in deplorable condition: Cong

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday criticized the deplorable condition of roads in the State that are posing a threat to the safety of citizens using the roads.

Addressing the media at Congress House, GPCC spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar stated, “Roads are bad, not only in the capital city, but also in the rural hinterlands and even in the tourist belt of the State. This raises doubt on the utilization of road tax collected by the government.”

Alleging corruption in the tendering process for hotmixing of the roads, Kawthankar said, “The quality of hotmix used is poor. An enquiry needs to be conducted and contractors found guilty have to be permanently blacklisted.”

It was further held that the government needs to stop undertaking patchworks on bad roads as it only worsens the situation.

“If no action initiated on this matter soon, Congress party will be forced to complain to the vigilance department against the Minister, engineer as well as the contractors concerned,” Kawthankar added.
