Residents of Valpoi municipality have been facing major difficulties due to badly damaged roads, worn-out asphalt surfaces, and dilapidated footpaths across several locations.

Taking note of repeated public demands, the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has now approved development and repair works worth approximately Rs 3.66 crore. The tender for the project has been recently issued, and the work is expected to commence soon.

Valpoi, being a centre market hub of Sattari taluka, witnesses heavy daily movement of people due to the presence of various government and private establishments.

However, roads that were asphalted a few years ago have deteriorated significantly in many places. Potholes, broken road surfaces, and damaged footpaths have been causing inconvenience to both motorists and pedestrians. Additionally, previously installed paver blocks in several areas have worn out and now require complete reconstruction.

Considering all these concerns, a detailed proposal was prepared and submitted to GSUDA for approval. The proposal was cleared in a recent meeting, paving the way for early execution of the works.

Under this project, resurfacing of roads, repair of damaged stretches, and reconstruction of footpaths will be undertaken at necessary locations. This is expected to improve traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety. The project is also likely to significantly improve the overall appearance and infrastructure of Valpoi town.

The initiative has reportedly gained momentum due to the efforts of local MLA and Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane. Several complaints and issues raised by citizens were brought to his attention, following which approval for the project was granted.

Once the tender process reaches its final stage, the work will begin through the appointed contractor. With this, long-pending issues related to roads and footpaths are expected to be resolved, bringing relief to the residents of Valpoi.
