The Swayampurna Chaturthi Bazaar at Chaudi does not appear to have excited people in Canacona as vendors in the bazaar have complained of poor business.
On the other hand, local vendors have been doing brisk business at specific sites along the highway and village roads in Canacona.
There has been lukewarm response to the State government sponsored Swayampurna Chaturthi Bazaar at the KTC bus stand, which was inaugurated by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar eight days ago.
“Few buyers come to enter the Chaturthi Bazaar and most prefer to buy their requirements from vendors seated outside the pandal and by the roadsides, while we are struggling to get business,” complained a woman vendor who occupied a spot inside the pandal of the Chaturthi Bazaar at Chaudi.
Added another vendor occupying the Atmanirbhar Chaturthi Bazaar pandal: “There is no one to regulate such activities and if we utter a word to correct them, we are told to shut our mouth and wait for customers to come to us.”
A man, who also had seasonal fruits and vegetables to sell, said he has been bringing items after an early morning visit to the forests.
"During the last few days, we are returning home without much sale,” the man said.
Vendors at the Chaturthi Bazaar hope for better sale on Tuesday, before Ganesh Chaturthi begins on Wednesday.
On the other hand, local sellers occupy spots by the roadsides and sell Matoli items, right from Loliem-Polem and Poinguinim to Shrishthal and Agonda.
The Matoli items consist of various indigenous plants, wild leaves, fruits, tubers, creepers, roots, shoots and herbs which are used to decorate the Matoli erected over the Ganesh idol which is worshipped in households.
