Roadside parking: Driver Hill local threatens to approach HC

VASCO

A day after a house was completely gutted in a fire incident at Driver Hill-Vasco, a resident and social worker Umesh Salgaonkar has warned the residents of approaching the High Court against house owners if they park their vehicles along the narrow internal road.

"This is a common issue and we have tried to explain multiple times to the residents not to park their vehicles along the narrow road. We have seen that several people here park their vehicles on either side of the road, thus blocking the access in the area. This is the second instance where a fire brigade had to struggle to enter the road due to such irresponsible behaviour," said Salgaonkar.

"I have in the past written to the former CM late Manohar Parrikar, and he had written a letter back to me with a copy to the then Mormugao Municipal Council Chief Officer Agarwal to initiate strict action after which the people had stopped parking along the road. I want to warn the people again that this time I will approach the high court against some roadside gardens and roadside parking against all the house owners who block the access of emergency vehicles."

"I will also write a letter to the CM Pramod Sawant and MMC seeking stringent action and take it to the logical end because we are living in a thickly populated area where houses have common walls and one incident of fire can spread to several houses in case the access road is blocked and there is a delay in the arrival of fire tenders. I appeal the councillor Girish Borker and Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar to immediately carry out an inspection and immediately clear the roadside gardens and initiate action against roadside parking in this area, "said Salgaonkar.
