Students of the government school in Ambaulim-Quepem had a lucky escape when the roof of the school was blown away by strong winds on Tuesday noon. The education department later issued a circular declaring a 3-day holiday for the school.
The government high school is located by the side of the Quepem-Cuncolim road and it is the only school in this village.
But since the last few days, this area has witnessed incessant rains along with strong winds. At about 1.30 pm on Tuesday, the roof of the second floor at the school was blown away. Students in the classrooms came out and while no one was injured in the mishap, there was chaos for sometime after the incident.
On receiving information of the incident, Quepem Deputy Collector Manohar Karekar, Mamlatdar Nathan Afonso, Ambaulim Sarpanch Devidas Deykar and Ward Panch Evetta Cardoso rushed to the spot to inspect the damage. An order was later issued to officials concerned to attend to the repair work.
