The float parade was flagged off by State Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma at the Old Secretariat, which culminated near the Kala Academy, Panaji.
The parade began with King Momo Roque Tome Fernandes declaring his decree: “I wish everyone present here to cooperate during three days of my regime with peace and harmony. Keep Goa clean and green.”
Sonia Shirsat, along with Joe D’Costa, enthralled the audiences with their composition ‘Viva Carnival “ Kai Boro Dis’.
Speaking to The Goan after the flagging off the parade, Sharma said, “I am witnessing Carnival in Goa after ten long years. I earlier enjoyed Carnival during my posting in Goa during 1996-1998 and 2004-2006.”
In all, there were 83 entries in various categories, of which nearly 25 were last minute entries. Some of the interesting floats included Goencho Ruchik Randhokor by Rosario Boys and Group depicting a wild boar, one depicting bull-fights and another a pirate ship, among others.
Several domestic as well as foreign tourists formed large part of the spectators.
‘The Goan’ bumped into six young women who had specially come to Goa from Delhi to witness the Carnival parade.
“We are witnessing such a parade for the first time but had read about it several times. And we wanted to come to Goa too for a holiday. So this time we came to Goa on a holiday as well as to enjoy Carnival,” said Karnika, who is one among the six-girl group.
However, the parade was not a new affair for an elderly couple from Mumbai.
