Rs 11.32 L robbery in Calangute
MAPUSA: Just when Goa is set to welcome the new tourist season, a spate of thefts involving hotel staff has been making headlines in the State particularly along the popular coastal belt of Calangute.
In yet another complaint against a Calangute hotel owner on Monday, a tourist family from Andhra Pradesh said that ornaments and cash worth Rs 11,32,000 were stolen from their hotel room.
The complainant, Lata Ramrakhyani, a tourist from Andhra Pradesh has accused Madeem Khan, the manager of the hotel at Porba-vaddo, Calangute, along with his family and staff of stealing the gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh and cash of Rs 32,000.
Similarly, a friend was also relieved of ornaments and cash worth Rs 1 lakh, the complainant further said.
The ornaments included two gold bangles, two chains, two diamond pendants and two diamond rings.
The theft took place between 11.30 am on September 11 and 3.30 pm on September 12 from the hotel room, Calangute Police said.
The thief apparently entered through a sliding window of the room, a police source said.
Calangute Police has registered an offence against the hotel owner and the rest under Sections 457 and 380 of IPC. The police are, however, yet to make any arrests.
