PANAJI: Tribal Welfare Minister and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar said Rs 250 crore worth of underground cabling work has been completed across Loliem as part of the government's long-term development vision for the constituency.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the first phase of the Rs 6.5-crore Loliem Beautification Project, Tawadkar said, "We have completed 100 per cent underground cabling work in Loliem village, the Canacona municipality area and Agonda village at a cost of Rs 250 crore with a vision and mission for Canacona."

Reacting to criticism and trolling over the development works in Loliem, Tawadkar said some people have "blindfolded their eyes" because the cabling work was carried out underground and is therefore not visible.

Highlighting other infrastructure initiatives, Tawadkar said that in 2022, the accident-prone Karmal Ghat witnessed at least five to six fatalities. He said he approached Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, following which Rs 8 crore was sanctioned for temporary road reconstruction works to improve safety.

The Minister further said that Gadkari also sanctioned Rs 1,300 crore for the road widening project from Bendordem to Polem. In addition, he said Rs 600 crore has been sanctioned for the construction and improvement of 54 internal roads, with work expected to commence soon.
