The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has seized a total of 4,427 liquor bottles worth Rs 3.25 lakh and have arrested 27 accused for carrying the same on KR tracks till August this year, informed the RPF Chief Security Commissioner in the rank of IG, A N Sinha, at a media briefing held in Margao to announce the week-long celebrations of the Railway Protection force (RPF) for marking its inception day on 20 September.
Sinha said this is for the first time that the celebrations are held in Margao ever since RPF was given the status of an armed force (paramilitary status) in the year 1985. As a part of the celebrations, the RPF held a parade, blood donation camp and interacted with passengers on aspects pertaining to security, Sinha informed.
He claimed that a toll-free number 182 is in the service of the passengers which is connected to the local RPF room for immediate assistance. Sinha also recounted the installation of CCTVs at 11 stations which includes a total of 276 cameras with the centralised control room set up in Margao. Sinha said the force has also increased its escort on trains which was evident during the recent Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
Giving statistics, Sinha informed that the RPF has rescued a total of 121 children while 388 passengers were fined for smoking on KR stations. Sinha also claimed that 522 hawkers, touts were arrested for minor offences upto August this year.
