Rs 42 cr project to bring 670 hectares under irrigation in Mayem

The Water Resources Department (WRD) will inaugurate a lift irrigation project for the Mayem constituency on Sunday at 10 am. CM Pramod Sawant will inaugurate the project at the pump house in Narve. WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, Chief Engineer Dnyaneshwar Salelankar, district panchayat members, sarpanchas, panch members and local residents will be present.

After the project starts, about 670 hectares of farmland will get assured irrigation. Farmers are expected to benefit and agricultural production in the area may improve. The project is also expected to help in the rejuvenation of Mayem lake and support better water sustainability. An additional 85.59 hectares will also come under irrigation. There is also a proposal to supply 5 MLD of water for drinking in the future, according to Shet and the WRD.

The project was first planned during the tenure of former MLA late Anant Shet. It has been implemented by the WRD. Construction was carried out by M/s Laxmi Civil Engineering Services Pvt Ltd at a cost of around Rs 42 crore.

The system has four pumps of 400 kW each. Two pumps are working and two are on standby. The designed discharge capacity of the project is 1 cumec, or 86 MLD.
