PANAJI: Insurance cover for a Rs 50-lakh sum assured has been extended to every health worker in Goa, according to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, even as the State's public health sector is seemingly wilting under pressure of the Covid-19 outbreak.
"The scheme provides insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh per health worker in case of loss of life due to Covid-19 or accidental loss of life on account of Covid-19 related duties," said the tweet posted on Sunday by Sawant on the micro-blogging site.
Meanwhile, anxious to stimulate economic activity in the face of the gloomy scenario triggered by the pandemic disruptions, Sawant said, over eight thousand loans which are co-lateral free were sanctioned in Goa under the Centre's Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
These loans are totally worth Rs 232 crore and have been sanctioned for businesses, including MSMEs from the State, the Chief Minister said.
More than half these loans worth some Rs 126 crore have already been disbursed, Sawant added.
Sawant also claimed, several more schemes for fishermen and the fishing industry will also be implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
It will have an outlay of Rs 163.1 crore this fiscal and Rs 48.58 crore of it will have to be contributed by the State and the balance will be footed by the Centre., with some minimal portion having to be put in by the beneficiaries.
