Addressing a largely attended Sarkar Tumchya Daari (government at your doorstep) event at the Government Higher Secondary Hall, Canacona, Sawant also appealed to the people to make Goa Swayampurna in all respects.
Hitting out at criticism that the Sarkar Tumchya Daari event was a campaign with an eye on assembly elections, Sawant said, “Elections will come and elections will go, but the government should reach out to every household, irrespective of any political affiliations.”
“We have brought more than 25 departments at the doorstep on Canconcars and people should not miss out on these services and benefits,” said Sawant and assured that those projects pending for want of funds, especially for water, roads and electricity, would be allotted shortly and these works would be completed in Canacona in the next three months.”
After handing over a cheque for Rs 2 lakh to those families who lost a loved one due to Covid, the chief minister announced an additional Rs 50,000 with the support of the central government, in addition to the Rs 2 lakh being sanctioned.
“We have already paid over 100 families an amount of Rs 2 lakh as financial support to the family for the Covid-related deaths and six of them received the aid today. These and all the families of Covid Deaths will get an additional Rs 50,000 as central support.”
Pushing the need for a self-reliant Goa, Sawant cited the case of a youth, Varad Sawant, from Dharbandora who had earned the highest annual income of Rs 70 lakh paid by the Horticulture Corporation.
“Surprised at the huge returns, I personally visited Varad’s farm at Dharbandora and he showed me the different produce at his farm. I am sure other people can also take such benefits. Let’s make our Goa Swayampurna in all respects,” he said.
Earlier in his welcome address, Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes appealed to the chief minister to provide jobs to the youth of Canacona, who are eagerly waiting for employment.
Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Simon Rebello, Goa State Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Chairperson Ramesh Tawadkar, Secretary (Revenue) Sanjay Kumar, District Collector (South) Ruchika Katyal were among those present on the occasion.
