PANAJI: The State government has received Rs 5.98 crore so far out of the total Rs 7.72 crore from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as allocation and necessary financial support for battling Covid-19 under India Covid-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package.

While the amount of Rs 4.23 crore allocated to Goa government in the first phase was released in March by the Central government, only half the amount allocated to the state in the second phase, Rs 1.75 crore out of Rs 3.49 crore, has been released in August.

The statistics were submitted as a part of a written reply submitted by Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

As per the press release issued by the MHFW, during the financial year 2020-21, funds to the tune of Rs 4230.78 crore have been released to the States and Union Territories as on September 3.

The MOHFW has pointed out that “public health and hospitals” is a subject under the state list, and hence, the primary responsibility of treatment of Covid-19 patients lies with the respective State governments using their own resources. It has been clarified that details of treatment of Covid patients are not maintained centrally.

Besides, states and UTs have been given flexibility to use the resources available under National Health Mission (NHM) to prepare the public healthcare system for Covid-19 management. States and UTs are also being provided required technical and financial assistance managing the Covid-19.
