Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday announced that the department intends to maintain a comprehensive database of the health condition of each Covid-19 patient and set up a robust mechanism to reach out to every Covid patient under home isolation with the intention of reducing Covid-related deaths in the State.
During a meeting of the Health Department convened by Health Minister Rane to discuss management of home isolating Covid patients, it was decided to induct multi-purpose health workers (MPHWs) and auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) who will be posted round the clock at every Primary Health Center, Community Health Centre and Urban Health Centre to reach out to the patients under home isolation.
“We are working towards setting up a robust mechanism to reach out to every patient under home isolation. Our objective is to ensure a database pertaining to the health condition of each patient is maintained, seamlessly reaching out to patients to guide them on usage of the kit and aim to reduce mortality numbers in the State,” Rane tweeted after the meeting.
According to the plan chalked out by the department, upon registration of an asymptomatic Covid-19 patient for home isolation, the concerned MPHW or ANM will reach out to the patient, guide them on the use of the kit at their disposal to monitor their saturation levels, health condition and address other related health concerns.
The MPHWs and ANMs, who will be posted on duty, will be trained along with health officers to impart crucial knowledge on the usage of the home isolation kit. The kit comprises a digital thermometer, an oximeter, a spirometer, a hand sanitizer, N95 mask, gloves, Vitamin C and D tablet and hydroxichloroquine tablets.
“In case of a rise in any symptom, the health officer will personally speak to the patient and shift him or her to the nearest medical facility as per health condition,” Rane explained.
