The work to lay underground electricity cables in Sangolda has begun at a cost of Rs 16 crore.
Saligao MLA Kedar Naik launched the work in the presence of Sangolda Sarpanch Neeta Kandolkar, Dy Sarpanch Ulhas Morajkar, Zilla Parishad member Sandeep Bandodkar and panch members.
Speaking on this occasion, Naik said residents of Sangolda were facing frequent disruption in power supply especially in the rainy season and it was decided to lay an underground 11 KV electricity cable in Sangolda at a cost of Rs 16 crore.
“The Electricity Department will have to dig roads to lay the underground cables. Once this work to lay underground electricity cables is completed, all roads in Sangolda will be hotmixed,” said Naik.
Sangolda Sarpanch Neeta Kandolkar said the underground electricity cable project would solve the problem of the frequent power fluctuation in the village.
“The panchayat has passed a resolution to construct a new Panchyat Ghar for Sangolda Panchayat as the existing panchayat office is very small and there is insufficient space to conduct the Gram Sabha. We would appreciate if the Saligao MLA takes the initiative and assists Panchayat to construct a new panchayat Ghar as early as possible,” said Kandolkar.
Electricity Department Assistant Engineer Agnel Trinidade mentioned that the under RDSS scheme of central government, the project to lay underground electricity cable at Saligao and Sangolda has been approved.
“The total project cost is Rs 25 crore, of which the cost of the Sangolda work is Rs 16 crores. Under this project, all overloaded transformers in Salgolda will be upgraded to a higher capacity due to which the problem of frequent fluctuation will be resolved. The time limit to complete this work is one year, but efforts will be made to complete the entire work before monsoon,” said Trinidade.
