Rs 20 lakh worth Ghutka seized at Porvorim, truck driver arrested

Porvorim Police arrested a truck driver from Uttar Pradesh and seized Ghutka worth Rs 20 lakh at Porvorim on Monday midnight.

PORVORIM: 
Porvorim Police received information from a reliable source at about 11.30 pm stating that a truck (MH-04-F-4207) carrying tobacco products will proceed from Panaji towards Porvorim. Accordingly, police deputed a team on the Panaji-Porvorim highway. The police team detained the truck near Neo Majestic Hotel at about 12 am.
Police said on carrying out the search of the truck, 105 jute bags containing Ghutka worth Rs 20 lakh was found without legal documents.
Porvorim Police arrested the truck driver, Mohammad Salim from Uttar Pradesh under Public Health Act. He will be produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class on Wednesday.
Police said on interrogation, the driver revealed that he was carrying Ghutka to Bhivandi.
Police conducted the operation under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Chandan Choudhary, DySP Serafin Dias, Police Inspector Paresh Naik and Police Sub Inspector Viswajeet Chodankar.
Drug raid: 19-yr old arrested at Miramar
PANAJI: Panaji Police in Tuesday conducted a narcotic raid at Miramar and arrested a 19 year-old man for illegal possession of Rs 40,000 worth narcotic substance. Ramesh Chawan, native of Osmanabad, Maharashtra and resident of Campal was caught red-handed in possession of grass-like substance suspected to be ganja weighing 390 gms. PSI Vivek Halarnkar is investigating the case.
