Ruling BJP politicians walk along parade route, chant Viva Carnival

Ruling BJP politicians chanted Viva Carnival at the Margao Carnival float parade as they all assembled at the Holy Spirit Church Square to flag off the Carnival festivities in the commercial capital on Sunday.

Attired in Carnival costumes, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte with Salcete’s lone Minister, Aleixo Sequeira, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP State president Sadanand Tanavade along with Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar and the Chairperson of the Margao Carnival Committee, councillor Milagrina Gomes and councillors walked on the parade route after flagging of the floats parade at the Holy Spirit Church Square.

While Margao MLA Digambar Kamat thundered Viva Carnival at the Holy Spirit Church Square, as he welcomed thousands of Saxttikars for the Carnival float parade, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte followed suit by wishing the people Viva Carnival.

The Tourism minister said that the department this year laid emphasis on tradition and culture at the float parade in line with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s government promotion of the rich cultural heritage of the State. “Under the regenerated tourism, spiritual and cultural tourism is finding much more flavour. Hence, we had laid stress on traditions and culture in this year’s carnival floats,” Khaunte said.

Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira said the enthusiasm of the massive crowd of revellers has conveyed a message in one voice Viva Carnival. He said this year’s Carnival festivities will be a trend setter for the coming years, as he called on the youth to be responsible while celebrating the festival.
