Questioning the Board of Directors of Bardez Bazaar Consumers' Cooperative Society Ltd for giving shabby treatment to one of its longest serving directors and promoters, the shareholders of the society said that the issue could have been handled in a better way and resolved amicably.
Raising the issue of the bad treatment meted out to director, Jaywant Naik, at the Annual General Body Meeting on Saturday evening, Shashikant Kandolkar said that the way Board of Directors handled the issue was very damaging to Naik and the society and left a lot to be desired.
"When a person who has been loyal to the organization for 27 long years is being treated in such a way that he has to knock the doors of the court and then he is sought to be expelled is a little too hurting," said Kandolkar.
He said the consumers' society got a bad name after the issue was highlighted in the media.
"The reports in newspapers have become destructive advertisements for Bardez Bazaar," he said expressing his dismay at the turn of events.
Seconding him was Manguesh Mantrawadi who said that the Board of Directors should have worked with circumspect before taking a drastic decision against a senior director such as Jaywant Naik.
"It's a little too much to digest that a person who has been working for 27 years is sought to be removed in such a manner," Mantrawadi said.
Bardez Bazaar Chairman Gurudas Sawal informed the AGM that in an unprecedented move the director, Jaywant Naik, slapped cases against the society which led to financial expenses of almost Rs 3 lakh.
"Apart from financial burden on the society, all directors and staff had to attend the courts for almost seven months. Cases were filed in tribunal, lower civil court and even in High Court," Sawal said.
He said Naik had vowed to expose scams in Bardez Bazzar, but seven months have passed but he has failed to reveal any.
"We cannot take any decision on the director today (September 23), as he has brought a High Cout stay refraining us from taking any decision on the show-cause issued to him," Sawal added.
One of the points listed on the AGM's agenda was to consider show-cause notice issued to Jaywant Naik under Section 26 and Rule 26 of the Goa State Coopt Act 2001 and Rules 2003.
Apart from a minor ruffle between chairman, Gurudas Sawal, and former chairman, Jaywant Naik, when Sawal stopped Naik from recording the proceedings, the AGM passed off peacefully.
