Rural areas deprived of quality health services, says Dr Kokate
Two-day national scientific seminar ongoing in Belagavi

Over 600 medical practitioners, scientists and delegates are attending a two-day national-level scientific seminar, which commenced in Belagavi on Tuesday.
Organised as part of the centenary celebrations by the KLE Society, the seminar will focus on means and methods in enhancing the provision of quality medical services that are normally not reaching the needy poor in the society. The meet was organised at Dr BS Jirge auditorium in the premises of the JN Medical College.
Speaking on the occasion, noted medical scientist Dr PS Sekharan emphasised on enhancing efforts to provide best medical facilities and infrastructure to the society.
“Government has done tremendous work to provide best of the medical facilities and invested heavily in medical infrastructure, but top quality medical services are not reaching the needy poor,” Dr Sekharan of Government Medical College Calicut (Kerala) opined.
He also lauded the role of private medical colleges who he said are offering top notch medical care to the needy at affordable cost through their hospitals and have been well appreciated by the community.
He also appreciated the efforts of KLE management in extending best of care and medical services at least cost to the people of the region.
“Good health is right of every citizen. Hence, I call on the medical fraternity to serve the ailing person with dignity and respect,” Dr Sekharan emphasised.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor of the KLE University Dr Chandrakant Kokate said though people living in urban areas have access to quality health care, the rural population is deprived of good and affordable medical services.
Dr Kokate also emphasised the need of ushering in a healthy society and striking a balance in providing health care between urban and rural areas so that the gap is narrowed.
Dr VD Patil, Registrar of KLE University, Dr NS Mahantshetti, Dr MV Jali, Dr HB Rajsekhar, Dr AS Godhi, Dr VA Kotiwale and more that 600 eminent medical practitioners, medical scientists and delegates were present on the occasion.
